Former Major League Baseball star Darryl Strawberry spoke at Heritage Church in Baxter on Monday, October 2nd. Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge Men's Choir opened the event with music and testimonies. Concluding the event was a Meet & Greet where Darryl signed autographs, posed for pictures, and prayed for and with people.
Mrs. Brutlag's 2nd grade class in Henning spent a day coloring warm-up shirts for our Hoops for Hope event held on April 8th at the Henning High School. With FX Design donating labor and material costs, each player donated $20 to wear a shirt during the game. This collaborative effort resulted in $900 being raised for one of their classmates, who is battling a rare form of cancer.
Hoops for Hope brought 600 spectators together for an entertaining night. Blind and Autistic singer from Boston, Christopher Duffley, sang the National Anthem. The night also featured a Special Olympics game, a performance by Just for Kicks, the Alexandria Aces, 3-Point Shootout, and an Alumni All-Star Basketball Game.
A packed gymnasium watched the Dairyland Donkey Basketball fundraiser on December 2nd at Henning High School. All ages enjoyed this non-stop entertainment that featured teams from Battle Lake Fire & Rescue, Henning Fire & Rescue, Henning Business Owners, and Henning Community Members. All the kids in attendance also enjoyed donkey rides during intermission.
